Hello to all the lovely couples out there!

This week I am going to talk to you about selecting your wedding dress!

Wedding dresses have been around for centuries. Colours and styles have changed, but brides have always dressed in their best occasion wear. No matter the budget, brides always treated themselves to a special piece for their special day. That is still the case today!

It can be challenging when picking what to wear on your special day as there are so many options and styles, it can be a very overwhelming process!

My top tips this week are:

Before you start wedding dress shopping- think about what style of wedding dress you would like to wear. It is important to focus on your body shape & what suits you but also where you will be getting married and what season. A winter wedding dress may need a cape or bolero jacket whereas a summer wedding dress needs to be light and airy! This all needs to be considered when finding the right dress for you on your special day.

I suggest you do some online research before you start looking in the bridal boutiques. See what’s trendy at the moment, search Pinterest and save your favourite pieces to a board, keeping all your ideas in one area. Looking on social media is also another great way to see different types of dresses for different wedding venues and locations.

Think about your body shape and the styles you like. I have put an image below as a guide to help you see dresses on different body shapes.

Setting a budget is key! Once you have that, you will have hundreds of options. The average amount spent on a wedding dress is between €1,500 – €3,000. Make sure you stick to your amount! It’s not just the dress you need to think about, you also need to think about the costs of shoes, bag, accessories and lingerie.

Give Yourself Enough Time to Find the Right Dress

When making a bridal boutique appointment in advance, try and book in to the different boutiques on the same weekend. That way your memories are fresh and you will have a clearer head. You might even say “YES” to the dress!

I suggest that you start looking sooner rather than later. It will help you to figure out what you like the look of and what you don’t.

The dresses you try on, will not fit your body perfectly. Alterations will have to be made. Make sure you save time for this…. It can take a few try-ons and alterations for the dress to be perfect.

It can take over 6 months, depending… for the dress to be made to order. Which is very easily forgotten with all the other wedding planning going on. If you leave it too late, you may have to pay additional charges to have it on time for the big day!

But make sure you don’t buy it too far in advance as you style might change and trends are constantly changing.

Make sure you have someone with you! It is great to have friend/family opinions and you know you can trust them. Make it an event by having your bridesmaids try their dress on too.

Heading to the Bridal Shops

When heading to the bridal shop, make sure you are wearing the appropriate underwear. (Nude Strapless Bra & Nude Pants)

Bring in any items you are planning on wearing. A family heirloom (veil or jewellery). This way, you can see what looks good with the dress.

Wear natural make up, so that you feel your best and no fake tan! You don’t want to stain the dresses.

Bring heels that you are wearing on the big day or a similar size heel. This will help with the length of the dress.

And don’t forget to have fun with it!

Try as many dresses as you can, all different styles, even the ones you don’t think will work as sometimes you may be surprised by the fit and look when you’re wearing them. This way you will find your perfect style of dress for you.

Why not make a day of it, grab your gals a have a nice lunch, afternoon tea or a well-deserved cocktail!

See you next Wednesday for some top tips on different dress styles.

Happy Planning!
