Hello to all the lovely bride and grooms out there!

This week I am going to talk to you about beautiful wedding flowers.

Flowers add visual beauty and a touch of romance to a wedding, but did you know a bride carrying flowers has its roots in ancient times?

Flowers, herbs and spices have been used in weddings for centuries. Brides used to carry aromatic bunches of garlic, herbs and spices to keep evil spirits away. Ancient Greeks also used to use flowers and plants to create a crown for the bride to wear as this was considered a gift from nature.

My top tip this week is to think on what you want your wedding flowers to mean to you on your wedding day

Did you know all flowers have a meaning or symbolism attached to them? Here’s a few common wedding flowers & their meanings to give you an idea:

Roses – White or Beige: Innocence; Burgundy: Lust; Red: Love, happiness; Pink: Loveliness; Yellow: Friendship; Orange: Fascination

Calla Lily – Purity and faith

Carnation – Pink: Boldness; Red: Love; White: Talent

Chrysanthemum, Mums – Abundance, wealth, truth

Freesia – Innocence, friendship, sweetness, thoughtfulness

Gardenias – Joy

So choosing a bouquet & arrangements with Red Roses & Calla Lilies would be symbolising your love, happiness & faith as a couple on your wedding day.

Colour – It is important to think about what blend you want your flowers to have. Your colours can look bold and vibrant or you could go for the pretty delicate look. It all goes back to the couple’s theme and personalities.

Texture – you may not think about it, but texture is very important for the look of your flowers. You can combine flower and foliage or you can even add them to the bride or bridesmaids’ gowns.

Style and Detail – all comes down to that you want. You could be looking for the traditional style of flowers or modern, contemporary or wild flower style. All of these looks will create an impactful detail to your wedding.

Size and Shape – The size and shape of the arrangements vary hugely. A large bouquet could overwhelm the bride if she is petite.  But having a large table arrangement would be beautiful. The correct proportions and size of the flowers are very important for your big day.

The flower possibilities are endless.

See you next Wednesday for top tips on hair styles for your perfect day.

Happy Planning!
